Masters Degree Program

in the academic discipline of
CULTURAL & RELIGIOUS HISTORY
with a concentration in Christian History

You can earn your Master of Arts Degree in the academic discipline of Cultural and Religious History under one of two conditions. You may proceed to take these courses for your masters degree if you have already completed a Bachelors degree from another institution (proof of such a degree will be required when you submit all of your course work for your masters degree). Or, you may proceed to take these courses for your Masters degree if you have already completed a Bachelors degree from Thomas Bilney Theological Seminary (We must already have received your bachelors degree courses and presented your degree) If you are coming to Thomas Bilney Seminary just to complete your Masters degree, and you have not taken any other courses or degree programs, please make sure you complete the following four courses first. 

 

Language and Grammar 101

General Science 101

Standard Mathmatics 101

Comparing World Religions   

 

You may turn your test results in with your completed Masters studies.

 

This Masters degree program is presented in five levels. All five levels must be completed to earn your degree. Follow the instructions carefully for each level and mail all of the course materials and examinations to Thomas Bilney College under the same cover with a degree completion form found on the link to your left. The fee for each level is $ 20.oo. You may have to purchase some of the additional materials required to take the course, if you do not already own the required materials. Resources where these materials can be purchased will be provided for you. 

LEVEL ONE

 

To complete this course level, you will need to obtain a copy of the video documentary titled EMPIRES : The Roman Empire in the First Century. This is a PBS production (product # REFC600). One resource for purchase is www.shoppbs.com  It is generally available on DVD or VHS. After you have viewed the program, answer all of the questions listen on the Level One Examination link (above). You may want to answer the questions as you watch the program – this is a great way to learn. Be sure to answer the two brief essay questions. Together the two essay questions count for 40% of your grade on this level.  You must have a minimum score of 80% to pass this level. LEVEL TWO

 

To complete this course level, you will need to obtain a copy of the video documentary titled  THE CRUSADES Crescent and the Cross. This is a History Channel production (ISBN 0-7670-8654-6). One resource for purchase is www.historychannel.com  It is available on DVD. After you have viewed the program, answer all of the questions listen on the Level Two Examination link (above). You may want to answer the questions as you watch the program – this is a great way to learn. Be sure to answer the two brief essay questions. Together the two essay questions count for 60% of your grade on this level.  You must have a minimum score of 80% to pass this level. LEVEL THREE

 

To complete this course level, you will need to obtain a copy of the video documentary titled  WHO IS THIS JESUS? : Is He Risen?. This is a Coral Ridge Ministries production (product # 112475). One resource for purchase is http://www.coralridge.org It is available on VHS or DVD. You may also want to obtain the parallel book bearing the same title by D.James Kennedy and Jerry Newcombe available from Coral Ridge Ministries P.O. Box 40 Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33302-0040. The book contains the entire transcript of the video production is in the book.   After you have viewed the program and / or read the book, answer all of the questions listen on the Level Three Examination link (above). You may want to answer the questions as you watch the program or read the book – this is a great way to learn. Be sure to answer the two brief essay questions. The essay question counts for 50% of your grade on this level.  You must have a minimum score of 80% to pass this level. LEVEL FOUR

 

To complete this course level, you will need to write a book report on one of the books listed below. Your report should be a minimum of 1000 words and should yield a adequate outline of the book’s chapters including your comments on a minimum of three direct quotes from the book you select.

LEVEL FIVE

 

To complete this course level you will need to write your Masters degree thesis. You should combine the knowledge you have learned from the four levels of study in this degree program into a paper which sufficiently displays what you have learned along with your own personal beliefs and perceptions of the study material content. You must also present the parallels between various cultures and religions as you have learned them in this Masters degree program. You should utilize a minimum of eight (8) direct quotes (at least two (2) from the material you studied in each level) identifying the source adequately in foot notes or end notes. You may use other sources for references that were not required for use in this degree program. Your written paper should be a minimum of five thousand (5000) words in length.
